| Today marked the second day of the home care workers’ continued hunger strike. After a rainy night, the weather cleared up just in time for the People’s Hearing and Open Mic. Many speakers came up to testify in support of the No More 24 bill and call out Speaker Julie Menin’s betrayal. From students to tech workers to faith leaders to artists, the city is united against the 24 hr workday. Additionally, we announced a major development in our fight just one day into the hunger strike: according to the Attorney General Letitia James’ office, Hochul’s Department of Labor is now re-opening hundreds of unionized home attendants’ wage theft cases that were previously closed. This came after the Department of Labor lost their appeal to keep the cases closed. Tomorrow’s program begins at 12pm and will be a Labor for No More 24 press conference, bringing together union members, workers’ centers, labor activists, retiree organizations, and all workers.
